With the holidays fast approaching, many of us introverts are quietly bracing ourselves for all the extra social interactions headed our way. If the idea of more small talk makes you want to hide under a blanket, you’re definitely not alone! But here’s a little secret: the holidays also offer a golden opportunity to serve others by truly connecting through meaningful conversation.
I’d love to hear from you! Drop a comment below and share some of your favorite conversation starters that go beyond small talk. I'm gathering questions that open doors to deeper stories, insights, and encouragement, making our interactions richer and more memorable. Meanwhile, here are three that I’m planning to try out this year:
1) Do you have a "rainy day" file or box? What kinds of items do you keep there?
Encouragement is such an amazing thing. I would like to get more ideas on what others find uplifting and how they keep that encouragement handy.
2) What topic could you talk about all day?
We often think we know what our closest friends or family are passionate about, but sometimes their true interests surprise us when we ask the right question. I'm hoping this one is a great way to discover someone’s hidden passions and spark a lively conversation.
3) Tell me a couple of things that you really admire about your [relationship to person with different abilities].
Why? The question is gentle and open ended. Plus, it embraces curiosity. ;)
