"There is a good chance that your baby will have Down syndrome."

Okay, great. What do we do with this information?

While I'll spare you the details of the other 1.2 trillion things that went through my head in 2.6 seconds, you may relate because you lived through the same call. Or maybe you've delivered the unexpected news. Regardless, thanks for stopping by and considering joining the journey to understand how Down syndrome impacts neurodevelopment.

Neuroscience is absolutely fascinating. For better or for worse, when the changes in typical neural development affect someone you love, neuroscience becomes even more fascinating. Hopefully, as the community expands, we can share this fascination and many practical outgrowths of the science.

As for me, I am a neuroscientist by training. I've used MRI to study a few different developmental disorders. All the years of looking at beautiful brains and talking with brilliant minds about various conditions enable me to sift through research about Down syndrome. I also have a background in education and love to help others develop the ability to explore questions on their own. Now, I am learning about Down syndrome everyday from my child. The plan is to combine all my experiences to offer accessible insights from seminal and recent research through consistent posts here on Brainwaves and Chromosomes to spur all of us on as we embrace curiosity....
